Details
The Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme aims to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged students who have passed the 12th class but are unable to pursue higher education. This initiative is part of Bihar’s governance program for 2015-20 and aims to increase access to higher education for students in the state. The scheme, implemented from October 02, 2016, facilitates education loans of up to Rs. 4 lakhs, ensuring that every eligible student can obtain funding through bank partnerships.
Key eligibility criteria include residency in Bihar, passing the 12th class in the state, and enrollment in a recognized educational institution. Students pursuing various courses like BA, B.Sc, Engineering, MBBS, Management, or Law are eligible, provided they are below 25 years old. Additionally, students cannot receive funding for a degree level they have already attained, except for technical or managerial courses.
The scheme seeks to increase Bihar’s Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education to match the national average of 24 percent. However, if beneficiaries drop out, they forfeit the remaining loan balance, emphasizing the importance of commitment to completing their chosen courses.
